Local judgment

Why go with a local guide

In Patagonia, experience can't be improvised. Weather changes fast, access depends on real conditions and every group needs a different plan. A local guide knows the terrain, the pace, the crags, the risks and the best way to experience the mountains with respect and safety.

01

Local reading of weather & terrain

Decisions based on real conditions, not on a calendar.

02

Routes chosen for your level

The right sector for your experience and your goal.

03

Safety, equipment & protocols

Checked technical gear and maneuvers to standard.

04

Authentic, not massified

Real Patagonia, in small groups, at a human pace.

Who guides you

Local guide, climber and instructor in Patagonia

I'm Francisco Canales, born and raised in Puerto Natales, and a mountain guide in training — an aspirant UIAGM Guide, currently studying at the Centro de Estudios de Alta Montaña (CEAM) in Peru. I grew up surrounded by mountains, glaciers and wild nature, and my mountain refuge in Villa Dorotea is where much of my passion for exploring comes from. My vocation is helping people discover the mountains in a safe, responsible and authentic way: trekking, high mountain, ascents, traverses and technical programs in Torres del Paine National Park and other Patagonian destinations. My training combines years of field experience with technical preparation under international standards.

Safety first

The mountain isn't sold as a promise. It's planned.

Every outing considers your level, the weather, sector conditions, equipment, communication and realistic goals.

Prior level assessment

We talk about your experience before confirming any program.

Checked technical equipment

UIAA/CE-certified gear, checked before every outing.

Small groups

Low ratio to keep control, learning and safety.

Weather-based planning

The program adapts to the real conditions of the day.

Conservative decisions

Knowing when to turn around is part of mountain judgment.

Respect for the mountain

We work with minimal impact and respect for the environment.

Mountain and climbing activities involve inherent risks. Planning and professional guiding help manage them, but do not eliminate risk.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need previous experience?

Not for sport climbing or the intro course. Technical courses (trad, multi-pitch, self-rescue) and the expedition require previous experience. We always do a quick assessment on WhatsApp before confirming.

Is equipment included?

It depends on the program. The expedition includes technical equipment; for outings and courses we confirm at booking what is included and what you should bring.

What if the weather doesn't allow it?

We reschedule or adjust the plan. In Patagonia the weather rules: we prefer conservative decisions over forcing an outing.

Where do the outings take place?

At crags near Puerto Natales — such as Laguna Sofía and Cerro Benítez — and in Torres del Paine National Park, depending on conditions and program.

Can I book a private trip?

Yes. Custom trips are designed case by case around your experience, dates and goal.

Do you run group courses?

Yes, always in small groups to keep quality and safety high. Message us on WhatsApp for spots and dates.

I'm traveling solo — can I join?

Yes. You can join a group outing depending on available dates, or arrange a private trip.

What should I bring?

When you confirm you receive a list for your program. In general: layered clothing, a waterproof jacket, water, food and proper footwear.

Do you speak English?

The website is in Spanish and English. Message us on WhatsApp and we will arrange your trip in the language that works for you.

How do I book?

Directly on WhatsApp: tell us your dates, level and goal. We check conditions, confirm the program and, depending on the activity, book with a 50% deposit.
